Eagles fall to No. 5 Wingate on the road

WINGATE, N.C. -- Carson-Newman concluded their 2019 season on the road against the Wingate Bulldogs falling 6-0 Saturday afternoon.

Due to rain tampering with the schedule of the day, the match was pushed back to 4 p.m. Another two-hour rain delay caused it to be pushed back even further and resulted in the teams just playing singles rather than doubles to speed things up a bit.

At the No. 1 position, Gabriel Dabdab (Rio do Janeiro, Brazil) fell to Daniel Belsito 6-1, 6-3. Hernan Toledo (Santiago, Chile) put up a fight against Matthew Jones and took it to three sets at No. 2. Winning the first one handily 6-1, he was unable to finish the match on the winning side dropping the next two sets 6-4, 6-3.

At No. 3 singles, Rintaro Oka (Narita, Japan) was defeated by Josep Canyadell 6-1, 6-2 and Marc Bantel (Urbach, Germany) fell to Roy Stepanov 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4.

The last two matches looked similar to the rest as Jesus Bacete-Sanz (Madrid, Spain) was defeated by Tolunay Sumer 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 and Victor Ireno (Sau Paulo, Brazil) dropped his match in straight sets to Enrico Giacomini 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.

The Eagles finished their season 3-17, and 2-8 in the conference.
