Lady Eagles trail North Carolina by four at half; Fall 91-43 in exhibition action

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles gave No. 20 North Carolina everything they wanted for a half, trailing 32-28 at the break, during an exhibition loss to the Tarheels on Wednesday night, 91-43.

The game wraps up the Lady Eagles rough exhibition schedule. Carson-Newman opens regular season action next Wednesday against Limestone at 5:30 p.m. in Gaffney, S.C.

Carson-Newman held the Tarheels to just 28 percent from the floor in the first half and grabbed 20 offensive rebounds in the game to frustrate Carolina. The Lady Eagles were 12-of-32 from the floor in the opening half en route to the four-point halftime deficit.

Senior Zoriah Williams and sophomore Shannon Depew led the Lady Eagles. Williams had eight points and her typical double-figures in rebounds with 11. Depew had 13 points to lead C-N. She added five rebounds to go with her 5-of-9 from the floor.

Carolina's Chay Shegog led the UNC explosive second half. She finish with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Shannon Smith added 13 for the Tarheels.

C-N was just 2-of-29 in the second half as the Tarheels took over the game. UNC was 21-of-35 from the floor in the second half.

The exhibition was C-N's third in eight days against a D-I opponent.

C-N hosts its home opener on Nov. 21 against Bryan in Jefferson City. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
