Lady Eagles raise over $1,000 on Play-4-Kay Night

The Carson-Newman Women's Basketball team hosted this year's Play 4Kay event on February 8, 2012, the night they defeated rival Tusculum College.  Besides grabbing a "W," the night was a great success in terms of fundraising for a wonderful cause—breast cancer awareness and research.

Graduate assistant Laura Elliot took the helm in orchestrating the event, which involved selling Play 4Kay t-shirts, raffle tickets, and concessions items.  The majority of these items were donated with the understanding that proceeds raised would go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

All told, 15 community organizations helped make the event possible:  Asian House, Citizen's National Bank, El Paraiso, El Sazon, Great Clips, Gondolier, McDonalds, National Sporting Goods Team Sports, Off the Beach, Papa Johns, Rich's Products, Tarr Chevrolet, The Creek, and Wal-Mart.  Many individuals also donated outright as well.  Everything included, proceeds totaled $1,004.25.

The Carson-Newman Women's Basketball team would like to extend a huge, "Thanks," to anyone and everyone who was involved in making the night a success.    Head Coach Mike Mincey's take on the event:  "We always look forward to our annual Pink Night game where we can come together as a college and community to support research to help find a cure for breast cancer.

This year's event was a tremendous success thanks in large part to assistant coaches Laura Elliot and Ashley Tipton and all those who donated generously to this cause. With the help of many, we are excited to donate $1,004.25 to the Play4k initiative."
