Carson-Newman Game Notes - LMU Home
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles (12-8, 9-5 South Atlantic Conference) women's basketball team will host the Lincoln Memorial Lady Railsplitters (10-8, 9-5 South Athletic Conference) at Holt Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m.
Carson-Newman is in the midst of its longest losing streak of the season with three straight losses, and the Lady Eagles are coming off of a season-low 47-point effort at Catawba last Saturday.
"Looking forward to being back in Holt tomorrow night against a well coached and talented LMU squad," said Carson-Newman head coach Mike Mincey. "It's a rivalry game that means a lot for both schools. We are both right there in the mix at the top of our conference so a win would be huge. In order to win any of our remaining games though we must score the ball better than the last two. No better chance to do that than in the confines our own gym tomorrow night."
Carson-Newman trailed only by a point at halftime, yet only scored four points in the first 10 minutes of the second half, as the Lady Eagles suffered their third straight loss, falling to Catawba 56-47.
Carson-Newman was led in scoring by the 10 points of sophomore Tatum Burstrom (Maryville, Tenn.), her first double-digit scoring performance in the last three games. The Lady Eagles scored a season-low 47 points in the loss, including a season-low 20 points in the second half.
Burstrom still leads Carson-Newman in scoring by averaging 11.4 points per game, and she is joined in a double-figure point average by senior Chante' Markus (Hummelstown, Pa.), who is averaging 11 points per contest.
The Lady Railsplitters, coached by Roger Hodge, are 10-8 this season with a 9-5 mark in conference play. LMU and Carson-Newman are tied for third place in the SAC standings with 9-5 records in conference games. LMU has won two of its last three games, getting road wins at Catawba and Brevard before falling at home last Saturday to Coker 58-55 at Tex Turner Arena.
The Lady Railsplitters are led in scoring by junior guard Aisjah Roan, who is averaging 14.9 points per game. LMU was picked to finish sixth in the preseason SAC coaches poll, while guards MaRanda Boddie and Kalasia Green were named to the preseason All-SAC second team.
Carson-Newman leads the all-time series against LMU 46-37, with the Lady Eagles winning seven of the last eight meetings. Last season Carson-Newman and LMU split the season series, with C-N winning 63-51 at Holt Fieldhouse on Jan. 23, and LMU winning at Tex Turner Arena 64-62 in overtime on Feb. 20. Carson-Newman hasn't lost to LMU at Holt Fieldhouse since the 2002-03 season.
