Stepp, Cupples garner Bojangles Athlete of the Week honors

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman track and field's Tanner Stepp (Jefferson City, Tenn.) and women's basketball's Kaitlyn Cupples (Clinton, Tenn.) have been named Bojangles' Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

Sophomore forward Kaitlyn Cupples (Clinton, Tenn.) had a season-high 13 points and nine rebounds including four offensive boards off the bench to help the Lady Eagles overcome an 11-point halftime deficit at Catawba on Saturday. Cupples went 4-for-5 from the field while converting 5-of-6 foul shots in 19 minutes of action. With the win, Carson-Newman women's basketball is off to its best start since 2009-10.

Freshman Tanner Stepp (Jefferson City, Tenn.) won the Carson-Newman track team's lone event last Saturday at the Appalachian Indoor Open. He won the men's high jump with a jump of 2.11 meters, which was high enough for a provisional NCAA Championship spot. That jump set a new school record.

Stepp's jump is currently the second-highest jump in Division-II and the eighth-highest jump spanning every NCAA division.

Bojangles is a proud corporate sponsor of Carson-Newman athletics.  Eagle fans can get a free large sweet tea from the Jefferson City location the day after Carson-Newman basketball games where the Eagle women score 65 points or the men score 70 points by telling the cashier, "It's Bo Time at Carson-Newman."
