JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman head women's basketball coach Mike Mincey has announced the signing of High Point transfer Abby Tinsley to the women's basketball program's 2015-16 signing class.

Tinsley is a 6-0 forward who will have three years of eligibility remaining.  She joins Ashton Wykle and Briana Smith as members of the 2015-16 signing class.

"With the addition of Abby to our roster, we now have good depth at every position," Mincey said. "Abby brings size, athleticism and a physical mentality which is needed on a nightly basis in the SAC.

"Having been coached two years by Shell Dailey at IMG Academy and then spending one year at High Point playing behind some really talented posts, Abby"s best basketball is ahead of her.

Made her collegiate debut against Longwood for the Panthers and went 1-of-2 from the free throw line to score her first point of her career.

She played for two years at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., averaging 13.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game as a senior. She played her freshman and sophomore seasons at Tandem Friends High School and was a two-time Delaney Athletic All-Conference selection.

"As I've stated before, signing quality bigs at the D2 level is our biggest challenge and we now have three solid ones so we feel very fortunate," Mince said. "During Abby's workout she exhibited all the qualities and then some we were looking for to fill our final spot for the 2015 class. Adding a post was something we wanted to do, but it had to be the right person and the right fit.  Before adding Abby we felt like we had a good squad but now we know we have solid players at every position and more importantly we have great depth."

Tinsley is the daughter of Boyd and Emily Tinsley and has a younger brother Noah. She is majoring in business administration.
