Carson-Newman Women's Basketball Game Notes
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – 17thranked Anderson (S.C.) makes the hike over the mountains to Holt Fieldhouse for a 6 p.m. start against Carson-Newman at Holt Fieldhouse looking to avenge a loss on its home floor to the Lady Eagles three weeks ago.
Carson-Newman took an 8-7 lead in the all-time series with a 54-51 victory against Anderson, ranked 11th at the time, on Jan. 21 of this year.
The Lady Eagles picked up their first win on the road against a ranked team since Dec. 12, 2009 while putting an end to Anderson's 26-game SAC winning streak in the contest. The Trojans shot 27 percent in the game and 25 percent from long range.
Mincey's group has defeated two ranked teams this season marking the third time in the last decade that C-N has accomplished that joining the 2011-12 and 2009-10 teams. In 2011-12, the Lady Eagles topped No. 12 Delta State and No. 15 Lander while in 2009-10 they beat No. 8 Clayton State and No. 23 Lenoir-Rhyne.
After the Carson-Newman win on Jan. 21 the Trojans turned around and lost at Mars Hill in the next game but have won four-straight outings with the last three contests coming by a combined 70 points.
Anderson has won 16 of its last 17 road games and this season is averaging more points and higher shooting percentages from the floor and the three-point arc on the road than in home games.
The post presence has been a key factor to the success for Jimmy Garrity's club as they are second in the league in rebounds per game with 42.3 and rebounding margin at 5.4. Eight times this season the Trojans have notched at least 45 rebounds. The duo of Jennifer Monroe and Alexis Dillard average just shy of 18 boards per night.
Monroe was held to four points on 1 of 10 shooting in the game but ended with 10 rebounds. Heather Jankowy had a game-high 16 points to lead the way.
Defensively Anderson is the best team in the SAC and 18th in the nation in field-goal percentage defense allowing just 35.1 percent with seven occasions of holding team under 35.
Turnovers continue to be a cause for concern as the team is averaging 17.7 giveaways per game, seventh in the league, having turned the ball over fewer than 15 times just once this year.
The starting five this season averages the majority of the minutes for Anderson with just one player outside of the five playing more than 15 minutes per night.
