CoSIDA Division II Academic All-District Release

ORLANDO – Junior guard Kayla Marosites became the first Carson-Newman women's basketball player in program history to be named Google Cloud Academic Division II All-District selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday.

The Eagles are one of eight schools to have a member of the All-American groups each of the last two seasons. The school has had 27 Academic All-Americans all-time including 11 members over the last six years.

Marosites has a 3.73 grade-point average in child and family studies. Of the seven players representing the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and Peach Belt in District three, five of the players come from the SAC.

The Elizabethton, Tenn. native leads the conference in two categories ranking fourth in the country with 18 double-doubles on the season and 17th by averaging four offensive rebounds per night. Her 18 double-doubles are one shy of Shari Buford's 19 in 2009-10 for the most in a single season since 2000. She has 31 over her career as Buford had 19 in four seasons.

Overall on the year, she is averaging 14.2 points per game, 11 rebounds, 2.5 assists and just over two steals per night. She is in the top 10 of the conference in 10 different areas.

On the school's all-time ledgers, Marosites entered the top 10 of the program's three-pointers list with 102 over her two seasons at Mossy Creek to rank ninth, 17 behind Mandy Mendenhall (2008-11). She upped her career total to 651 rebounds, 16 shy of securing the 10th spot on the ledger. She is just over 200 points from becoming the 23rd player in C-N history to score 1,000 points.

In 2018-19, the second-team All-SAC selection has 22 double-figure scoring games and 20 double-digit rebounding efforts. With 22 rebounds at Columbus State on Nov. 25, she set the school's record for rebounds in a single game.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March.

The Division II Google Cloud Academic All-America program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division II Academic All-America teams.
