JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman beach volleyball team was unable to seek revenge against in-state rival Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday afternoon, falling 4-1 at the Carson-Newman sand volleyball courts.

"I noticed that our ball control was getting a little bit better," Carson-Newman beach volleyball coach Kyle Peck said. "I think a lot of the individual efforts were better this time around."
The No.4 and No. 5 teams lead off the afternoon for the Eagles and Railsplitters. The Carson-Newman(2-4) tandem of Hannah Robertson (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) and Abbie McFarlane (McKinney, Texas), stayed competitive throughout the match against Lincoln Memorial (8-11). Erica Whiteaker and Becka Wachob won the first set 21-10, but Robertson and McFarlane made them work for the second set falling just short at 21-18.

The No.4 pairing of Kendall Cooley (Castle Rock, Colo.) and Marnie Stretter (Goldvein, Va.) took the first set 21-15 to begin the match against Bristol Snider and Brooke Fleeman. Snider and Fleeman battled back in the second set winning 21-14. In the third in finals set Cooley and Stretter saw an early lead disappear as they fell 15-11.

Next up for the Eagles and Railsplitters were the No. 2 and No. 3 tandems. The Eagles already down in an early 2-0 hole needed to at least win one to stay alive in the match. The No. 3 pairing of Eileen Anderson (Pittstown, N.J.) and Allie Foster (Johnson City, Tenn.) had a hard time generating offense in the first set falling 21-6. In the second set Anderson and Foster began to click, but came up short against Kiera Holland and Lindsey Nartker 21-11.

The No.2 tandem of Alex Biro (Ooltewah, Tenn.) and Morgan Ballard found themselves in a back in forth battle early in the first set. The LMU duo of Abby Cash and Jamie Jehne pulled away late in the first set to pick-up the 21-11 win. The second set was a different story as Biro and Ballard had an early lead, but saw Cash and Jehne surge back to capture the second set 21-17. The match clinched the victory for the Railsplitters, up 4-0.

The Railsplitters looked to sweep the Eagles in the No. 1 singles match. The top pairing of Taylor Lowe (Franklin, Tenn.) and Anna Patton (Franklin, Tenn.) made sure that the Eagles would not go down without a fight. The duo won the first set 21-11, but faltered in the second set 21-15. In the third and final set the tandem of Lowe and Patton came back from four down to tie the match at 15-15. The Eagles defeated the Railsplitters 18-16 to pick-up their lone point of the afternoon.

In the exhibition match Carson-Newman assistant coach Erin Harwood teamed up with Elena Vasquez (Riverside, Calif.) for the Eagles final match of the evening. Harwood was allowed to play because she still had collegiate eligibility available. The pairing of Harwood and Vasquez defeated Tone Gill and Peyton McDaniel in straight sets 21-15, 21-15.

"She (Harwood) was really excited she got to play," Peck said.

The Eagles final matches will be on the road this weekend against Lincoln Memorial, Austin Peay and Spring Hill.
