Eagles fall in opening day at Governors Beach Bash

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Carson-Newman was unable to muster a win against the host of this weekend's tournament, Austin Peay, as they fell 5-0 Friday afternoon. 

Beginning the day at the bottom of the lineup at No. 5 and No. 4, Taryn Nichols (Hixson, Tenn.) and Dilyn Palmer (White Pine, Tenn.) fell with a matching score in both sets of 21-9, 21-9 to Caroline Waite and MiMi Arrington. At No. 4 Montgomery Sauter (Columbia, S.C.) and Lexy Headley (Sharps Chapel, Tenn.) fell to Lucy Randall and Cori Theiss 21-17, 21-19.

Down 2-0, the Eagles needed all three remaining pairs to win their duals in order to win the match. However, the C-N was unable to get momentum. At No. 3 Grace Seymour (Hudson, Fla.) and Lauren Williams (Carrollton, Ga.) were defeated by Chloe Stitt and Ginne Gerig 21-10, 21-9 to decide the match for the Governors. 

Finishing out the day for the Eagles were Aryana Fazelnia (Weston, Fla.) and Kelly Hughes (Woodbridge, Va.) at No. 2 falling to Ciera Koons and Brooke Moore 21-16, 21-12 while Summer Coulter (El Paso, Texas) and Abby Struewing (Lebanon, Ohio) fell to Jenna Panning and Haley Turner 21-13, 21-11 at No. 1.

The Eagles will compete again in day two of the tournament Saturday at 1 p.m. against Georgia State and 3 p.m. against Eastern Kentucky University. For results, updates and info check back on cneagles.com.
