ELGIN, S.C. – Playing as an individual in the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships South Super Regional, Elizabeth England (Oakland, Tenn.) carded a first round 80 that put her at eight-over and in a tie for 27th on Monday at The Members Club at Woodcreek in Elgin, S.C.

"We prepared really well for this event," said coach Suzanne Strudwick. "Elizabeth has been exemplary in working hard over the last week. We started fast, being one-under after four holes, but the wind really picked up and made the remaining holes exceptionally difficult. She battled hard and had to rely on her scrambling skills to keep the round going. Her driving and putting were the strongest parts of her game, so we're confident that today will be the highest round and she can go lower over the next couple of days."

Starting on the back nine, the junior settled in right away, birdieing the 11th before stringing together five straight pars. Despite a double on 16 and a bogey on 18, England was at two-over through nine. Unfortunately, the weather played a role in making the front nine a much tougher task and a streak of five bogeys in-a-row at one point led to a six-over during the second half of England's day.

At the top of the leaderboard following day one is Charlotte Puts from No. 1 Barry University. She shot a one-over 73, one stroke better than Krissy Ortiz of No. 10 Lynn University. Teammates Marie Coors and Amanda Jakobsson of sixth-ranked Saint Leo are tied for third, two shots off the lead and three players are sharing fifth.

Puts has also led her team into the lead with a 20-over 308, which bettered the Lions by one stroke and the No. 16 team in the country, West Georgia, by three.

Round two of the Super Regional will kick-off on Tuesday morning. England is scheduled to tee off at 9:20 a.m. For a recap of day two in Elgin, visit cneagles.com.
