England concludes first day of NCAA South Super Regional tied for 39th

Day One Results

GERMANTOWN, Tenn.Elizabeth England (Oakland, Tenn.) opened her time in the 2018 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship South Super Regional with an eight-over round of 80 for a tie at 39th in the first round at the Germantown Country Club on Monday.

"I was hoping for a better day," England mentioned. "I struggled with my short game and finding rhythm with my stroke."

The C-N senior was five over through the back-nine of the course to start the day. She opened her super regional outing with a bogey followed by a trio of even par shots that were sandwiched by four more consecutive bogeys.

In the later portion of the day, she was three-over, shooting a pair of bogeys to start the front nine before carding her first birdie of the day on the third hole. She recorded just two more bogeys in the rest of her time on the greens with four additional holes.

"It was tough," head coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "She hit the ball really well but really struggled on and around the greens. She made four 3 putts and missed several chips, just leaving herself too far away to make pars. I think she put too much pressure on herself to do well which hurt.

"I'm confident with the practice she is doing now; we will improve over the next two days and finish respectively."

Barry's Tilda Larsson sits atop the leaderboard at four-under par with a 68. West Florida's Paloma Vaccaro and Tampa's Kiira Riihijarvi sit in a tie for second with two-under scores of 70.

Nova Southeastern, the No. 1 team in the country, was the best team through the first day with an eight-over round of 296. One stroke behind was No. 5 Barry at 297 while No. 10 Rollins took third through the first round at +15.

The second day of the tournament tees off Tuesday morning with England hitting the links at 10:10 CDT. Fans are encouraged to follow the live scoring provided by Golfstat.
