WHEATON, Ill. – A trio of birdies late in the afternoon was enough to land Suzanne Strudwick above the cut line as the Carson-Newman women's golf head coach shot a 78 that was good enough for a 25th-place position on Friday at the U.S. Senior Women's Open.
Strudwick went four-over par in the front nine with a couple of bogeys and a double bogey on hole four, a hole she had birdied on a round before.
The second portion of the day started off rocky for the C-N mentor with a trio of bogeys pushing her to +7. The final stretch brought some relief as she carded birdies on three of the five closing holes, helping her to end the day at five-over par.
Strudwick hit 11 more fairways on Friday, keeping her average at 78.6-percent for a tie at sixth-best in the field. She reached the green 13 times in regulation, one more than her Thursday round. She holds a 152 total heading into Saturday.
Fellow England natives Trish Johnson and Laura Davies sit in a tie at the top of the leaderboard as the duo went two-under on the day, helping them to be four-under for the event.
Saturday will consist of a single round of 18 holes with Strudwick scheduled to tee-off 10:07 a.m. EDT. from the first hole at the Chicago Golf Club. While USGA will provide live scoring throughout the day from USGA, coverage can also found on FS1 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. EDT.
