BRISTOL, Tenn. -- For a third consecutive year, Carson-Newman took home the team and individual titles at the King Invitational as the event concluded on Tuesday.
Freshman Maeve Cummins (Waringstown, Northern Ireland), serving as an individual in the event, was the best in the field by the end of the two rounds with a four-over total of 146. She shaved two shots off of her opening round score by shooting a 72 on Tuesday.
She was the best par-4 and par-5 scorer at three-over and two-under, respectively. She also shot a field-high seven birdies throughout the event.
Cummins is now the first C-N freshman to win an event since Elizabeth England at the Newberry/Carson-Newman duel on Feb. 2, 2015.
#CNWG also had the top individual at the King Invitational for a third-straight year!

The Eagles as a unit were five shots better on Tuesday with a final round score of 296. They totaled a +29 two-round score of 597, the best 36-hole total a C-N team has recorded during coach Suzanne Strudwick's tenure. All seven Eagles participating improved their shot totals in the final round.
"Great performance. It was exactly what we wanted," Strudwick said. "Our goal was to three-peat this year, another goal was to score lower on the final round than the first. The depth of the team has improved over the previous years. Very proud of the whole team!"
Anna Davenport (Roswell, Ga.) notched her best finish as the runner-up in the field thanks to a tiebreaker of the final low round and low score on the 18th hole where she posted a par, just edging teammate Rachel Watts (Newport, Tenn.) who shot a bogey.
The duo was six-over through the two rounds of play for a 148 total. They each shot a 73 in the final day, marking Davenport's new lowest round score while matching Watts' that she set at UINDY a couple weeks ago. The 148 was both of their career lowest two-round scores.
Davenport was the second-best par-3 scorer through both rounds at one-under on such holes. Watts was on par for 27 holes through the event, the most of anyone in the field.
Taylor Hayes (Lake Ozark, Mo.) dell three spots on Tuesday but carded a 150 total that was good enough for sole possession of fifth-place, her lowest total score in her career. She tied for third-best in terms of par-3 scoring with an even 3.00 average.
Jayla Sims (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) moved up one spot on the leaderboard to finish in a tie for sixth. She was three shots better on Tuesday to go nine-over for the event.
Reagan Kinnie (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), also competing as an individual, was 10-over through the two rounds of play. She landed in a tie for eighth while shooting for even on par-5 holes, tied for third-best in the field.
Olivia Williams (Cleveland, Tenn.) saw a turnaround on Tuesday as she shot an 83 in the final round. Her 169 total put her at 27-over par for a share of 27th.
North Greenville was second in the field with a 633 total, a whole 36 shots behind the Eagles. It was followed by Converse at 634.
The next event on the docket for the women's golf team will not come until late October when the group heads to middle Tennessee for the Women's Music City Invitational hosted by Trevecca. That event will take place on Oct. 22 and 23 from the Old Hickory Golf Club outside of Nashville.
