COLUMBUS, Ga. – Carson-Newman used a 37-over day to retain its third-place standing to close out the Lady Cougar Classic on Tuesday with a 644 total.
This marks the sixth-straight top-three finish for the Orange and Blue this season.
"Really tough day today," Carson-Newman coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "Conditions were harder than yesterday because of the cold and frost. It was a challenge for the girls, but they battled through. The girls will be ready to get back to work after the spring break."
The Eagles were 68-over through the event. In the second round, they fired a 325 score, six shots higher than where they left the course on Monday. They stayed remained the best par shooting team with 95 even holes through the tournament while shooting the second-best average on par 4 holes at 4.49 for a +49 showing.
Reagan Kinnie (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) remained in the top-five through the second round, holding down fourth-place with a 157 despite shooting three shots higher on Tuesday at an eight-over 70. The junior shot two shots higher through the front nine of the course on Tuesday than she did in the first round, this time going five-over with a bogey and two double bogeys. She tacked on four bogeys in the back nine before closing her day with a birdied on the par 4 18th hole.
Kinnie tied for the top spot on par 4 scoring with a +5 average of 4.25 and par shots with 24. All of that while tying for third-best par scoring with a 3.25 average.
Maeve Cummins (Waringstown, Northern Ireland) ended the event at 15-over with a share of seventh-place at 159. She shot one shot higher in the second round than she did in the first. Her day began with a nine-over showing that was spearheaded by a triple bogey that was followed directly by two bogeys and a double bogeys. The freshman went on to card back-to-back bogeys heading into the turn. She regained a small bit of ground in the back half with two birdies and a bogey that pushed her down to eight-over in the round with a 70.
Cummins tied for third on par 5 scoring with a 5.12 average.
Anna Davenport (Roswell, Ga.) was the only Eagle to make improvements in the second round. She was two shots lower on Tuesday with an 80 on the day, moving her to 18-over for the event to tie for 15th with a 162 total. The first part of her day resulted in a six-over position heading into the back half of her day after carding two bogeys and back-to-back double bogeys before another bogey and birdie cancelled each other out. She added on just a bogey and double bogey in-a-row to go three-over through her remaining holes to go eight-over on the day.
Six shots behind Davenport was Matilda Frövenholt (Öjersjö, Sweden) at +24. She was six-shots higher in the second round with an 87, moving her total to 168 for a share of 22nd. She was eight-over through the first nine holes of the day with three bogeys and a pair of double bogeys. In the back nine of her day, she tacked on three more bogeys with a four-over showing on the par 3 16th to move her to 15-over in the round.
Rachel Watts (Newport, Tenn.) shot a second-straight round of 85 on Tuesday to land her in a tie for 25th with a 170 total. She went four-over in the first half of her day on four bogeys, three of those strung together before the turn. She added on four more double bogeys with an additional bogey to close the day at 13-over for the round.
The junior tied with Kinnie on par 3 scoring.
Individual Olivia Williams (Cleveland, Tenn.) moved to 42-over after the second round with a 187 for 38th on the leaderboard. She faced struggles out the gate once again in the second round, starting at 10-over with a trio of double bogeys and four bogeys. The sophomore brought in four more bogeys with a pair of double-bogeys and a +3 and +4 showing on two other holes to give her a 25-over round with a 97.
Host team Columbus State and NAIA's fifth-ranked squad in Dalton State tied for the top spot in the field by the end of the round with a 61-over total of 637, but Dalton State won with the tiebreaker.
Dalton State's Isabel Rijos was the top medalist with a nine-over 153. Two shots behind her in second was Columbus State's Monica Ruiz Pavon while Lincoln Memorial's Lise Malherbe took third at 12-over.
The Eagles take 11 days away from tournament action before heading to nearby Sevierville, Tenn. for the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, hosted by Tennessee Tech. That event will take place from March 17 through 19 at the Sevierville Golf Club.
