Final Results

WALLACE, N.C. – No. 25 Carson-Newman put together its best 54-hole score in program history with a 905, putting a cap on the regular season with a third-place finish at the Sunoco Campbell Oil Classic on Tuesday.

This finish marks the seventh top-three result the Eagles have obtained this season. As for the event, they have finished in the top-five in all of their three appearances, top three in back-to-back seasons.

C-N was 22 shots higher in the third round to go 41-over through the event. This came after a record outing in the second with the South Atlantic Conference's second-lowest single round score of 292.

"We struggled in the wind today; it was cold and wet this morning," Carson-Newman coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "It was a tough day, but no one really managed well. We need to improve our short game before the conference championship."

Despite the downswing in scores on the final day, three Eagles – Maeve Cummins (Waringstown, Northern Ireland), Jayla Sims (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) and Matilda Frövenholt (Öjersjö, Sweden) – still fired their career-best 54-hole scores.

Cummins moved up one spot in the final round to tie for fifth with a six-over total at 222. She shot her highest-round score of the week with a 76.

Two shots behind the freshman was Sims at eight-over. She tied for seventh-two spots back of where she sat by the end of Monday. The sophomore carded a 79 in the third round, giving her a 224 total.

Tied for 11th in the event was Reagan Kinnie (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) at 11-over. Like Sims, she shot a 79 in the final round, pushing her total to 227.

Frövenholt finished at the highest spot on the leaderboard among all individuals in the field, holding a share of 16th. She was five-shots higher than her first two rounds, shooting an eight-over 80 on Tuesday. The sophomore was 14-over in the event with a 230.

Taylor Hayes (Lake Ozark, Mo.) also shot an 80 in the final round, moving her down into a tie for 25th at 17-over for the tournament. Her highest round of the event led to a 233 total.

Rachel Watts (Newport, Tenn.) made the steepest fall down the leaderboard by the end of Tuesday at 18-spots, tying the junior for 41st at 24-over. She carded an 87 in the final round, the highest score she has carded in a single round this season.

Host team UNC Pembroke held onto its lead from Monday to win the team title at 24-over with a 222 through three rounds. South Atlantic Conference foe Wingate was 11-shots back for a second-place finish, just six shots better than Carson-Newman. The Orange and Blue edged out No. 23 Anderson by three strokes, leaving the Trojans in fourth.

UNC Pembroke's Katy Flax remained at the top spot on the player leaderboard to be the top medalist. She was two-over for the event with a 218 total. Two shots behind her in a tie for second were teammate Alexandria Bare and Merrimack's Krystal Knight at four-over.

C-N returns to the Tar Heel State in a week and a half for the South Atlantic Conference Championship. Lenoir-Rhyne will host the event set to take place April 7-9 from the Lake Hickory Country Club - Catawba Springs Golf Course in Hickory, N.C.
