CARMEL, Ind. – No. 25 Carson-Newman shot its highest round of the week on Tuesday at 29-over, moving it to a ninth-place finish at the UINDY Invitational.
"Disappointing last day," Carson-Newman coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "The conditions of the course made scoring tough, but I was hoping we could step up today and perform better. We have a lot to work on – most definitely mental toughness and limiting unforced errors through mental mistakes."
This is the second-straight season the Eagles have finished in ninth-place at the event. As a unit, C-N added carded a 317 in the final round to push its 54-hole score to 927 after a 300 and 310 in the first two rounds, respectively.
Maeve Cummins (Waringstown, Northern Ireland) shot her highest round of the week with a 78 on Tuesday for a share of 18th. She opened the round with a bogey and triple-bogey but managed to clean-up through the rest of her day with two birdies to go six-over on the day.
Sitting in a tie for 32nd, Reagan Kinnie (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) went 17-over for the event after shooting a 77 in the final round. Her third round was five-shots better than where she left the course after Monday's afternoon round. The senior was unable to snag a birdie in the round, carding a trio of bogeys with a double-bogey out the gate.
Just one shot behind Kinnie was Rachel Watts (Newport, Tenn.) with a 35th showing with a 234. Like Kinnie, the junior also recorded a 77 in the final round. She brought in seven bogeys with a pair of birdies.
Jayla Sims (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) shot her highest round of the week as well with an 85, moving her to a tie for 42nd. The junior carded a bogey to start the round before adding on six more through the round. A double-bogey and four-over showing on the par-3 fourth.
Matilda Frövenholt (Öjersjö, Sweden) also shot an 85 in the last round, pushing her 54-hole score to a 30-over 246, placing her in a tie for 53rd. She fired nine bogeys with a couple of double bogeys.
Individual Olivia Williams (Cleveland, Tenn.) was 11-over in the final round with an 83, landing her in a tie for 57th. She brought in six bogeys with just one birdie on the day.
No. 4 UINDY was the victor at 19-over. Findlay took second with Lynn and Saint Leo in a tie for third.
Lynn's Helen Kreuzer was the top medalist at nine-under. UINDY's Hunter Nugent and Pilar Echeverria tied for second at one-over.
Carson-Newman heads back to East Tennessee for the South Atlantic Conference Championship Preview, hosted by Lincoln Memorial. That two-day tournament will start on Monday from the Woodlake Country Club in Tazewell, Tenn.
