BREVARD, N.C. – The No. 10 Carson-Newman
College Women’s Soccer Team (13-2-1, 5-1-1 SAC) got back on
the winning track Saturday afternoon as it defeated Brevard College
(6-10-1, 0-6-1 SAC) by a 2-1 score in South Atlantic Conference
action.
After a scoreless first half, the Lady Eagles got on the board 3:37
into the second period with sophomore Katie
Hunter’s (Mississauga, Ontario, CANADA) goal as she
received a pass from sophomore Sandra Kaelin
(Trachslau, SWITZERLAND) that the finished past the goalkeeper.
Brevard took the equalizer just after the hour mark (61:11) when
Bailey Varley (Concord, N.C.) poked the ball from C-N’s
goalkeeper and placed it home. The goal came on Brevard’s
only shot on goal in the match.
Carson-Newman took the lead with the match-winner in the 71st
minute as junior Melissa Morris (Sweetwater,
Tenn.) corralled a loose ball in the box and hammered it home for
the 2-1 score.
The Lady Eagles outshot the Tornados 27-4 in the match.
C-N sophomore Lauren MacKenzie (Barrie, Ontario,
CANADA) picked up the win in goal while Sydney Douglas (Houston,
Texas) suffered the loss for BC despite making 10 saves.
Carson-Newman will remain on the road as it travels to Belmont,
N.C., to take on the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College on
Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
