BRISTOL, Tenn. - Carson-Newman's Morgan Gruenenfelder
(Sweetwater, Tenn.) scored three of C-N's four goals as the Lady
Eagles beat King College, 4-1, on Wednesday afternoon in Bristol,
Tenn.
With the win, the Lady Eagles improve to 6-6 on the year, while
King falls to 3-9.
Gruenenfelder scored goals in the 2nd, 50th and 57th minutes, and
Melissa Morris provided Carson-Newman's other goal in the 39th
minute as the Lady Eagles picked up their third-straight win of the
year. Gruenefelder now has seven goals on the season, while Morris
improves her total to two.
King got a goal by Hannah Shankle (Bristol, Tenn.) in the 36th
minute which tied the match at 1-1 momentary. Shankle got the ball
from Abigail Shankle (Bristol, Tenn.) on the play. For Hannah
Shankle, the score tied her for the team lead with six goals while
it was Abigail Shankle's team-best third assist in 2010.
Lauren Fritts (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) recorded five saves in goal for
King. Sarah Tompkins played the opening 72 minutes for
Carson-Newman with eight saves.
Overall King had 20 shots, nine on goal in the contest.
Carson-Newman got 17 shots off, 10 on goal.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Saturday when they travel to
Wingate, N.C. to face Wingate University. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
