Second NCAA regional rankings have Eagles in eighth

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA has released its second set of regional rankings for women's soccer and the Carson-Newman women's soccer team has dropped two spots to eighth.

The Eagles were placed sixth in the initial rankings and over the last week beat the top team in the South Atlantic Conference, Tusculum, but followed that with a tie at Brevard. Overall, C-N's record stands at 12-3-1 with a 7-2-1 conference mark.

The NCAA uses its regional rankings to select teams for the NCAA Tournament following the conference tournaments. The top six teams in each regional poll are selected for the postseason, though an automatic bid is awarded to the SAC tournament champion.

The top three spots in the tournament remained unchanged this week, as Columbus State, Limestone and UNC Pembroke are the top three, respectively. The only other SAC team in rankings is Lenoir-Rhyne at sixth.

There is one more regular season match remaining for Carson-Newman and it is scheduled for Saturday at McCown Field against Coker. The opening whistle will sound at 2 p.m.
