Second Half Surge gives Eagles 4-0 win in First Road Contest

Banner Elk, N.C. – The Carson-Newman Eagles dominated play in its first road game of the year after topping the Lees-McRae Bobcats 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

C-N (3-0) would unleash 31 shots to the Bobcats (0-2) three, 17 of which would be on frame. The last time the team cranked over 30 shots in a game, came back on Oct. 25 of 2016 vs. South Atlantic Conference opponent Mars Hill.

"Great win on the road. It took us awhile to break them down but our quality showed in the end," said coach Simon Duffy.

Bobcats' goalkeeper Alexis Feely stayed busy in the first half recording five saves as the Eagles continued to pepper the junior net minder with 12 shots after 45 minutes.

Junior forward Magda Mosengo continues to stand out for the No. 12 ranked Eagles as she tallied the ultimate game winning goal in the 47th minute on a feed from Holly Talbut-Smith, notching her fourth of the season.

Mosengo continues her strong start to the season after receiving player of the week awards from both the SAC and the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.

The Eagles would run away with the game in the second half receiving two goals from senior Lauren Wade, as well as the second goal of 2017 for freshman forward Emilee Futrell.

"Great to see Wade back on the score sheet after Saturday's game," added Duffy. "She was relentless."

Futrell (76') and Wade (77') scored less than a minute apart, ultimately putting the game out of reach and helping the program get off to its first 3-0 start since 2009. Wade led all players with 10 shots, eight of which were put on net.

"It was also a great performance from our back four," said Duffy. "They were great in front of Jackie all afternoon."

Jackie Burns notched her second clean sheet of the season with three saves, though she was relatively untested as the Eagles defense continued to play well in front of the sophomore goalkeeper.

The Eagles will head back to McCown Field this Saturday, Sept. 9 when they host Francis Marion at 3:00 p.m.
