Lockett, Siebert lock down first team All-America honors from Daktronics

ROLLO, Mo. – Carson-Newman outfielder Bre Lockett (Fontana, Calif.) and utility infielder Elayna Siebert have both earned first team All-America honors from Daktronics, the organization announced Wednesday evening.

Siebert and Lockett become the first pair of players to make an All-America first team since Zoe Heim and Jessie Howard pulled off the feet in 2008.

The duo becomes Carson-Newman ninth and 10th All-Americans in C-N's NCAA history and 14th and 15th when factoring in the program's NAIA days.

An All-American outfielder is a bit of a rarity for C-N softball. Lockett is just the second player in Carson-Newman  history to earn that honor, joining Kelli Hensley (2014).  Siebert becomes  the first utility player to earn All-America honors for the Eagles.

The bulk of C-N's All-American's have come at shortstop and pitcher.  Brittany Hefner (2013), Howard and Sammi Hatcher (1992) earned such honors at short. Only pitchers have been tabbed for All-American status as often as C-N shortstops with three selections – Heather Randolph (1995), Heim (2008) and Carol Zachary (1989-1991).

Lockett also garnered first team all-SAC honors after leading the league in batting average (.452), on-base percentage (.545) and slugging (.841).

A two-time SAC Player of the Week, National Women Play Ball DII Athlete of the Week and TSWA Player of the Week, she is top 30 in the nation with her batting average and is tied for fourth in the league with 13 home runs and fourth in the league with 55 RBI. –

Lockett has three, four-hit games this season (Bluefield State, Fort Valley State and Tusculum), and she set Carson-Newman's single game records against the Blues for home runs (three), RBI (nine) and total bases (13).

She scored a school record five runs against Fort Valley State. Lockett put together a 12-game hitting streak where, among which included nine straight mutli-hit games. She has a team-best 18 multi-hit games this season and a team-best 11 mutli-RBI games.

Siebert came on late to finish as the runner up to Lockett for the league's batting title with a .440 average (also good for 86th in the nation).  Siebert also earned first team all-conference and all-region honors as a freshman utility player.

In conference play only, Siebert is second in the league in HR (8), RBI (20) and total bases (50). She leads the league in conference play only with 19 runs scored.

Siebert put together the longest hitting streak of the season for an Eagle at 14 games. She has 17 multi-hit games and 14 multi-RBI games.

Siebert matched the school record for double in a game with a three-double game against Mars Hill.

Siebert and Lockett are the only two players from the South Atlantic Conference selected to either the first or second All-America  teams from Daktronics.
