JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman head softball coach Vickee Kazee-Hollifield has announced a one-day softball instruction camp for girls of all ages for Nov. 4.

The Carson-Newman Softball Instruction Camp will teach elementary through high school-aged players fundamentals and drills used by Carson-Newman softball to reach the high levels of collegiate softball.  These are the same techniques that coach Kazee-Hollifield uses on hitting, defense and softball fundamentals.  Players will also be taught game strategies, base running and the most current hitting and fielding drills. Clinicians will include all members of the Carson-Newman staff, plus current and former Lady Eagles.  This is an extremely informative and fun-filled camp.

Camp hours are from 9 a.m. - noon on Nov. 4.  Campers are advised to arrive at 8:30 that morning to check in.  The camp is held at the Vickee Kazee-Hollifield Softball Complex on Carson-Newman's campus.  The cost to attend is $45.00 and includes a free camp t-shirt (as long as the camper is registered by Oct. 20).

This general skills camps focuses on the fundamentals of throwing, fielding, base running and hitting along with game situations, tactics and mentality.  Drills along with competitions will help players learn the game and grow to compete at the next level.

Fielding skills include all positions.  Coaches will go over the fundamentals of ground balls, fly balls, throwing form, cut offs and relays.  This also includes proper positioning when defending a base.  Catching instruction includes blocking, quick release techniques and framing.

Hitting skills will include the fundamentals of a swing, including proper hand placement, stride length, rotation of the lower body and timing.  Drills and stations that promote bat speed, lower body rotation, contact point and pitch recognition will also be covered.
