Rinus ropes in AstroTurf SAC Pitcher of the Week accolade

ROCK HILL, S.C. - For the fourth time in her career, Carson-Newman softball hurler Lacie Rinus (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) has been lauded with AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.

Rinus has won four of the last six pitcher of the week awards that the South Atlantic Conference has presented.

The sophomore opened up her second campaign at Mossy Creek with a win, a save and 7.0 innings of shutout softball.

Rinus struck out the first six batters she faced in the Eagles' game-one, 8-0, run-rule shutout of Lees-McRae.  She picked up her 11th career complete-game shutout in that victory.  Against the Bobcats in game one, she fanned the first six batters she faced.  Rinus would also strike out the side in the fourth inning to finish game one with nine punchouts.

In game two, she came on in relief of Morgan Crawford in the fifth inning and closed the door on the Bobcats with 2.0 innings of shutout work.  She tallied a K in each frame en route to her first career save.

Rinus and the rest of the Eagles are in action Tuesday afternoon at Erskine.
