Pitcher of the Week plaudit number four, Rinus honored by TSWA

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - For the fourth time in her career and the first time of her sophomore season, Carson-Newman pitcher Lacie Rinus (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) has been named the state pitcher of the week by the Tennessee Sportswriters Association.

Rinus went 3-1 in the circle with a 1.56 ERA over the week.  She pitched in 27.0 innings across four games and picked up a pair of complete game shutouts.  She fanned 29 and only walked eight for the week.

The sophomore got her week started by firing a two-hit shutout against a North Greenville team that is now nationally ranked.  She punched out nine Crusader batters and only issued two free passes.

Rinus followed that up with another complete game shutout, she fired a three-hit blanking of King on Feb. 15.  Rinus walked three and struck out eight in that game.  She also pitched in game two of that doubleheader and took her only loss of the week, allowing five earned runs in five innings.

She wrapped up her week against Augusta, powering Carson-Newman in a 2-1 win.  She scattered eight hits but also fired nine strikeouts.

This season, Rinus ranks fourth in the league in ERA and is second in strikeouts.
