ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman freshman outfielder Haley Caldwell (Kenova, W.Va.) has netted her first career AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week honor, the league office announced Tuesday morning.

"It is an honor to get this award," Caldwell said. "Coach (Vickee Kazee-Hollifield) has helped me getting my hands level.  She helped me work to hit my pitch instead of the pitcher's pitch, and that's been key.  I wouldn't be getting this award if it wasn't for my team too. They're the ones I'm thankful for right now."

Caldwell helped Carson-Newman to a 3-1 week with a split at Concord and a crucial in-region sweep of Limestone.

The freshman was 7-for-15 at the plate for the week, hitting .467.  She slugged a stupefying 1.000 over the four games.

She had mult-hit games in three of the four games the Eagles played this week and also drove in multiple runs in three-quarters of the contests.

Caldwell hit four doubles in the twinbill with Concord.  In fact, six of her seven hits on the week were for extra bases.

She tanked her third home run of the season in game two against Limestone. Her  home run against the Saints came in the bottom of the sixth inning with the score tied 2-2. With two-outs, she sent a three-run blast over the fence to put the Eagles up 5-2 and give them the win, and the doubleheader sweep.

Caldwell and the rest of the Eagles will be in action at noon Friday against New Haven.
