Fiessinger’s streak leads to SAC/TSWA Player of the Week honors

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Junior outfielder Abby Fiessinger's (Benton, Ky.) week started inauspiciously with a pop up to short.  However, it finished with eight consecutive hits and player of the week honors from both the South Atlantic Conference and the Tennessee Sportswriters Association.

Both organizations announced that Fiessinger had won their respective weekly laurels Tuesday morning. 

Fiessinger is the first Eagle to earn the league's player of the week honors since Katie Pritchett hauled in the accolade last year on April 2nd.  She is the first TSWA selection for the Eagles since Taylor Scott was named the state's player of the week on March 29. 2017.

Both SAC and TSWA honors are the first for Fiessigner in her career.

"It means the world to get recognized," Fiessinger said. "It shows that people appreciate what's going on and that my hard work is paying off.  It takes a lot of focus and a little bit of luck to get here."

To go along with her straight hits over three wins for the Eagles, Fiessinger collected two home runs, five RBI and five runs scored.

The Benton, Ky., native homered among three hits and scored twice against Lander University and was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored in the first of two contests versus Claflin.

She followed that with a 3-for-3 performance with another home run, two RBIs and two runs scored against Claflin.

Fiessinger needs only two more consecutive hits to become the 21st player in NCAA Division II history to achieve double-digit consecutive hits. For the week, she had a batting average of .889, an on-base percentage of .889, and a slugging percentage of 1.667. 

Fiessinger leads the SAC in batting average at .615.
