JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman will tangle with seven foes who made last year's NCAA South or Southeast Regionals during its 2024 schedule.
Carson-Newman will square off with South Regional participants Alabama Huntsville, Mississippi College and Tampa, while taking on half the field from the Southeast Regional – Wingate, Lincoln Memorial, Lenoir-Rhyne and King.
The Eagles will be looking to make NCAA Southeast Regional play for a third straight season.
"You always want to schedule tough," Carson-Newman head softball coach Michael Graves said. "It paid off for us last year. Those tough early season games helped us into postseason play last year. It also helps prepare us for a tough South Atlantic Conference schedule. We always want to be tested in the month of February."
Carson-Newman opens the year with a trip to the Sunshine State from Feb, 2-4. The Eagles will play three consecutive doubleheaders against Eckerd, Florida Southern and Tampa. Tampa spent much of last season inside the top five of the NFCA Coaches Poll and was the top seed in last year's South Regional.
Carson-Newman hasn't taken on Eckerd since 2011. The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Tritons 14-6. C-N hasn't seen Florida Southern on the diamond since 1998. The Mocs have a 5-1 lead in the series. The Eagles haven't played Tampa since 2004, with the Spartans taking both games in a doubleheader – the only two meetings between the teams.
The second weekend of the season sends Carson-Newman back to Albertville, Ala. where it will play in Alabama Huntsville's Charger Chillout for a third straight season. Carson-Newman will play six games at the event, two of which are against teams that made last year's South Regional. Carson-Newman starts the weekend against Peach Belt foes Young Harris and Georgia Southwestern. Day two gives the Eagles Montevallo and UAH. The weekend wraps up with Mississippi College and Shorter. Mississippi College and UAH both made last years South Regional.
After a nine-day layoff, Carson-Newman plays its first game in the state of Tennessee on Feb. 20 at King. Carson-Newman doesn't play at home until Feb. 28 against Kentucky State.
Carson-Newman opens up conference play on March 5 at Coker. C-N touts non-conference home games in March and April against UNC Pembroke, Wheeling, Converse, Milligan and North Greenville.
The Eagles home conference opener is on March 16 against Mars Hill. C-N will celebrate senior day on April 20 against Lenoir-Rhyne.
