Lancaster, Melhorn lead Eagles with three wins at Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Freshman Jon Lancaster (Ringgold, Ga.) won three events and set a school record and sophomores Maggie Melhorn (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Margaret Stansberry (Knoxville, Tenn.) each picked up three wins as the Carson-Newman swim team competed against the Limestone Saints at Timkin Aquatic Center in Gaffney, S.C.

The 15th-ranked Eagles' women's team picked up a 172.5-87.5 win over the 23rd-ranked Limestone squad with C-N winning both relays and nine individual events. Limestone's men won 152-110. Carson-Newman picked up the combine win 282.5-197.5.

The 200 Medley Relay team consisting of Emily Loftis (Hendersonville, Tenn.), Melhorn, Elly Culp (West End, N.C.) and Lisa Postma (Leiden, Holland) won the first event of the evening with a time of 1:50.04 to beat Limestone's team by nine-tenths of a second.

Sophomore Lexy Raybon (Sarasota, Fla.) won the 1000 Free in 10:47.24 and defeated the secon0place finisher by six seconds. Junior Amanda Henderson (Bartlett, Tenn.) won the 100 Back by six-tenths with a time of 1:00.27.

Melhorn won the 100 Breast by over a second with a swim of 1:07.07; Melhorn also won the 200 Breast by two seconds over junior Nancy Claire Smith (Franklin, Tenn.) for a Carson-Newman one-two finish. Melhorn and freshman Olivia Winkler (Marietta, Ga.) finished first and second in the 200 IM as Melhorn won in 2:11.45. Stansberry won her first event of the day, the 200 Back, in a time of 2:08.85; Stansberry won her first distance event of the year with a swim of 5:15.12 in the 500 Free with Raybon placing second. The sophomore also won the 200 Free in a time of 1:55.49.

Raybon tied with Limestone's Helina Simsek in a time of 2:10.64 for the win in the 200 Fly. Postma won her second event of the night in the 50 Free with a time of 24.67.

Postma, Culp, junior Samantha Starnes (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Stansberry combined to win the 200 Free Relay in 1:38.52 to cap the women's win.

Lancaster picked up the men's first win of the evening in the 1000 Free in a time of 9:52.24 to set a school record in the event. Lancaster followed his win in the 1000 with a victory in the 200 Back by two seconds over the second-place finisher with a swim of 1:54.81. The freshman's third win of the night in the 500 Free beat his closest competitors by over four seconds in 4:49.11.

Freshman Seth Hughes (Kingston, Tenn.) won the 100 Back by almost two seconds with a swim of 51.78 seconds.

Junior Sam Schechter (Knoxville, Tenn.) won the 50 Free with a swim of 21.60 seconds and won by four-hundredths of a second. Sophomore Ryan Burcham (Lenoir City, Tenn.) registered her first win of the night in the 100 Fly with a swim of 51.15 seconds.

The Eagles return to the pool on Nov. 19th-21st as they head to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Mid-Season Invitational.
