Lancaster, Winkler sweep BMC Swimmers of the Week honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Carson-Newman freshmen swimmers Jon Lancaster (Ringgold, Ga.) and Olivia Winkler (Marietta, Ga.) swept the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Swimmers of the Week awards on Monday after contributing to the Eagles' 387-131 combined win over the Bellarmine Knights last Saturday.

Lancaster took a victory in the 500 Free and also was a member of the winning 400 Free Relay team. The freshman swam the 500 Free in 4:49.02 and finished second in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:02.15. The 400 Free Relay team won the event in 3:14.23.

Winkler picked up two individual wins in the 200 Back and 200 Individual Medley and placed second in the 200 Medley Relay and 200 Fly. Winkler won the 200 Back with a time of 2:08.31 and finished a second and a half ahead of the second-place finisher; she swam the 200 I.M. in 2:11.56, which was nearly two seconds quicker than the closest competitor.

Lancaster and Winkler become the second Carson-Newman duo to sweep the weekly awards after sophomores Margaret Stansberry (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Ryan Burcham (Lenoir City, Tenn.) were bestowed the awards on Nov. 24th.

Seven Eagles have garnered plaudits from the BMC in just the third year of existence of the C-N swim program.

Carson-Newman returns to the pool on Jan. 16th, 2016 as the Eagles compete in a tri-meet against King and Emory & Henry at 1 p.m. in Kingsport, Tenn.
