Eagles ranked 20th in latest CSCAA top 25 polls

NORFOLK, Va. – The Carson-Newman women's swim team is ranked 20th in the nation in the latest edition of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America poll released on Thursday.

The men's team is just outside the top 25 and receiving votes.

The Eagles join the poll after taking a 197-64 win over the Bellarmine Knights Saturday afternoon in Maddox Poll in a meet that the Orange and Blue clad swimmers took top honors in 13 of the 14 events.

On Tuesday, freshman Olivia Winkler (Marietta, Ga.) was named the BMC Swimmer of the Week after winning two events against the Knights; sophomore Margaret Stansberry (Knoxville, Tenn.) has also garnered the award from the conference this season.

The Eagles are one of three Bluegrass Mountain Conference teams in the poll joining top-ranked and defending national champions Queens (N.C.) and fifth-ranked Wingate.

The CSCAA Poll Committee will produce in-season rankings of the 25 best performing NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving teams in rank order at the time of each poll. The rankings are not designed to predict the results of the NCAA Championship, but rather which teams would win head-to-head against other teams in the country. Ranking are based on performances that have taken place since the previous poll and include invites as well as dual meets.

The Eagles return to the pool after the Christmas break on Jan. 16th, 2016 with a tri-meet against King (Tenn.) and Emory & Henry in Kingsport, Tenn. at 1 p.m.
