Eagles garner CSCAA Scholar All-American honors

NORFOLK, Va. – The Carson-Newman men's and women's swim teams each posted cumulative GPAs over 3.00 to receive College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-American plaudits on Wednesday; the Eagles were two of 547 swimming and diving teams representing 354 colleges and universities.

The 20th-ranked women's team posted the fourth-highest average of all Division II programs and the highest in the Bluegrass Mountain Conference with an average of 3.62. Only LIU-Post, Lynn and Maryville (Mo.) recorded higher GPAs than the Eagles. In the pool this season, C-N won all five of its dual meets and has registered 12 times quick enough to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

In total, the women's team was one of nine BMC teams to be named Scholar All-Americans.

The men's team earned the Scholar All-American award after recording a 3.11 cumulative average during the fall. The Eagles were one of eight teams in the BMC to receive the award from the CSCAA; only 26 Division II men's programs recorded a GPA higher than 3.00. The men posted a 3-1 regular season record and recorded five provisional swims; freshman Jon Lancaster (Ringgold, Ga.) reset three school records in the 500, 1000, and mile Free.

The Eagles return to the pool on Feb. 10 for the first day of the BMC Championships that will be swam at the Rock Hill Aquatic Center in Rock Hill, S.C.
