Eagles perched in 17th in latest CSCAA rankings

NORFOLK, Va. – The Carson-Newman women's swim team in the final regular season edition of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America poll.

The Eagles have not competed since Jan. 16 when C-N took a tri-meet sweep of Emory & Henry and King. The team was scheduled to face the Catawba Indians on Jan. 23 but the meet was cancelled due to snow.

This season, freshman Olivia Winkler (Marietta, Ga.) and sophomore Margaret Stansberry (Knoxville, Tenn.) have each won Bluegrass Mountain Conference Swimmers of the Week plaudits.

C-N is one of three ranked Bluegrass Mountain Conference teams in the CSCAA poll; the defending national champions Queens (N.C.) Royals are the top-ranked team in the nation and the Wingate Bulldogs were placed fifth.

The men's team is receiving votes and would be considered ranked 27th.

The CSCAA Poll Committee will produce in-season rankings of the 25 best performing NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving teams in rank order at the time of each poll. The rankings are not designed to predict the results of the NCAA Championship, but rather which teams would win head-to-head against other teams in the country. Ranking are based on performances that have taken place since the previous poll and include invites as well as dual meets.

Carson-Newman returns to the pool beginning next Wednesday for the four-day BMC Championships at the Rock Hill Aquatic Center in Rock Hill, N.C.
