Lawrence, Kan. – Regina Zipperer claimed a 17th place finish in the 2017 College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) National Collegiate Open Water Championship. She finished second overall among D2 swimmers.
The race at Lone Star Lake consists of a two-loop swim that covers 3.1 milers (5K). The championship field for the women's side consists of 54 females coming from a diverse group of colleges and universities spanning across the entire United States, including Division 1 schools.

"Regina was really excited and confident going into this race," said Coach Jordan Taylor.
Zipperer, a native of Germantown, Tenn., was in 20th place at the halfway mark but looked to have more left in the tank.
"She made some big moves on the other swimmers down the stretch," exclaimed Taylor. "She posted a time way faster than she did last year in this even. Very pleased with her performance!"
Zipperer completed the course in 1:08:29.77 .
"It was way tougher this year," explained the sophomore Zipperer. "I had to fight the whole way with a lot of girls. I am really pleased with my time and position considering how many D1 athletes I beat!"
Zipperer finished over other swimmers from UConn, St. Louis, Richmond, George Washington, among other bigger schools.
