CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Thursday preliminary swims for the Bluegrass Mountain Conference have commenced with both C-N swim teams heading into the evening in third-place.

Notable swims from the morning sessions came from Marcelo Figueiredo in the 500 yard freestyle as he narrowly missed a season-best time with a finish at 4:34.97 which was good for a top-three time.

Paden Duke came in 22nd but earned a new season-best in the event with a time of 4:48.65 which was nearly two seconds better than his previous time.

Juniors Jon Lancaster and Caleb Howell each registered top-eight finishes in the men's 200 yard individual medley. Lancaster came in at No. 6 at 1:50.00 flat with Howell at No. 8 with a time of 1:51.16. Both were the only athletes other than Queens or Wingate to finish in the top-nine swimmers.

Nikola Tadic (1:53.20), Ivo Kunzle (1:53.50), and Andrei Roman (1:55.56) all posted new lifetime-highs in the event.

Jonny Goss (20.72) and Chad Andoljsek (20.74) rounded out the top-8 in the 50 yard free with Goss posting a new career-best. 

In the men's BMC division, the Eagles grabbed 180 points on day one trailing the Queens Royals who have 201 and Wingate who holds steady at 215

Maggie Melhorn led all C-N swimmers in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:05.34 which collected a seventh-place finish. Alex Nuyianes turned in a No. 13 finish with a new lifetime-best time of 2:07.81.

Melhorn and Nuyianes were the only swimmers other than athletes from Wingate and Queens to finish in the top-15 in the event.

Courtlyn Fields topped her personal season-best time in the 200 IM by three seconds turning in a finish at 23rd at 2:14.36.

Five Eagles landed in the top-12 of the 50 yard freestyle in the morning swims. Lisa Postma collected a sixth-place finish at 23.74 narrowly edging teammate Elly Culp at 23.76.

In the final swims, the top-six spots in each individual event earn All-BMC honors.

Mary Northcutt (23.89 season PR), Margaret Stansberry (24.11) and Laurel Sankowski (24.40) checked in at the 9, 10 and 12 spots respectively.

The women's side collected 83 points in the first wave of events on Wednesdaysitting behind Wingate with 120 and day one leader Queens.
