George, McNabb tabbed in the league's weekly spotlight

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Two Carson-Newman swimmers swept the Blue Mountain Conference Swimmer of the Week awards following the Eagles dominant performance over the Lees-McRae Bobcats on Saturday from the MSAC Pool.

Bethany McNabb and Matthew George earned the honor from the league following its announcement on Monday afternoon.

C-N was able to top the Bobcats at home by a combined total of 253.5 to 71.5. After a total of twenty events, the women outscored LMC 123.5-26.5 and the men at 130-45. The Eagles took home 19 of the 20 events on the evening.

A stellar swim from McNabb in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:31.59, gave the senior her first win of the 2018-19 season.

George won the men's 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:26.90. The time put George as the third fastest in Carson-Newman's history and seventh in the country in the event.

Both awards come following the announcement that the Carson-Newman men's swimming team has jumped nine spots to No. 11 in the latest CollegeSwimming national polls.

C-N fought against the Bulldogs once again the Emory Invitational a few weeks following the dual meet in Jefferson City, Tenn. The Eagles topped Catawba over the two-day invite who currently ranks 29th.

"I'm delighted with the improvement to our national standing," Taylor said. "That was one of our goals going into the meet. Race hard in each of the events and improve on season-best swims which in turn would prepare us for upcoming meets and help toward these rankings. The team has really worked hard the past three months and has been able to get some really impressive times."

The C-N women's side fell 11 spots to No. 29 in the country after beginning the season at No. 18.

The Eagles turn their heads toward the University of Tennessee Invitational at the end of the month. It's the second-straight season in which Taylor's troops will compete over the three-day meet as they will be the only Division II program in attendance.
