Eagles place 14 in day three final swims at the BMC's

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Friday's preliminary swims concluded for Carson-Newman at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center as they head into the evening's finals with a third-place position in the team standings on both the men's and women's sides in the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships.

CJ Jensen and Meredith Ginn will represent the Eagles in the 'A' final for the 400-yard individual medley after fifth and sixth-place finishes finishes at 4:30.58 and 4:30.65 respectively. It will be Ginn's second appearance in an individual 'A' final this week and the first for Jensen.

Caleb Howell took the top-spot in a prelim swim for the second day in a row with a time of 3:53.10 in the 400 IM. Howell broke his own school record by over a full second, a mark which he's held since 2017. His previous season-best in the event came in at 3:57.76.

Joey Clemmer rounded out the top-eight swimmers in the same event for his first appearance in a final this week with a time of 4:05.31. The finish for the freshman out of Murfreesboro, Tenn. marked a new personal-best time as an Eagle and enters his name at fifth in program history.

Elly Culp returns to an 'A' final swim for the second time as an individual and the fourth overall with a third-place time in the 100-yard butterfly, setting a new season-low swim of 56.05 seconds.

On the men's side of the event, Ivo Kunzle is the lone swimmer to represent C-N after collecting a fourth-place time of 49.25 seconds which also is a new season-low and personal-best at Mossy Creek. He remains at No. 4 in program history with the mark.

Gabby Aguiar makes her second appearance in a final race this week as she clipped Wingate's Maria Madsen to earn the No. 8 position in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.87.

For the men, Matthew George and Jon Lancaster return to 'A' final swims with Friday morning's seventh and eighth-place finishes in the aforementioned 200 freestyle. George came in at 1:39.54 with Lancaster on his heels at 1:40.44.

Garrett Stelling is set to appear in his first final of the league championships after checking in at seven in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 57.21 seconds, grabbing a season-best time.

Andrei Roman rounded out the top-eight needed to make the 'A' final with a time of 57.46 seconds.

Freshman Ruth Hullette returns to a final race with tonight's scheduled appearance in the 100-yard backstroke after an eighth-place finish. Her time of 57.50 is a new best as an Eagle, nearly two seconds lower than her seed time. The mark also puts Hullette with the fourth-best time in the history of the program.

Seth Hughes grabbed a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke coming in at an even 48 seconds, which also hits a new season-best swim and leaps teammate Andrei Ungur for second all-time in the program. Ungur will also compete in the final after a time of 49.14 turned in a fifth-place finish for the freshman.

Tonight's finals in day three of the BMC's will begin at 5:00 p.m. and can be watched online here.
