ROCK HILL, S.C.- Carson-Newman swimmer Maria Tirulli was named the South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Women's Swimmer of the Week today, Dec. 12, after her performance against the Emory & Henry Wasps this past weekend.
Carson-Newman swim hosted Emory & Henry on Saturday, Dec. 8, besting the Wasps 311-75. Women's swimmer Maria Tirulli won two events throughout the meet, and she was named the SAC Women's Swimmer of the Week for her performance. Tirulli is a sophomore from Sau Paulo, Brazil and is in her second season with the Eagles.
Tirulli won gold in the women's 200-yard freestyle in 1:57.22. The Eagles swept the event as teammates Kyla Blakemore (1:59.36) and Lily Parr (2:02.15) placed second and third respectively. Tirulli also touched the wall first in the women's 500-yard freestyle in 5:18.79, finishing the event over 10 seconds faster than her closest competition.
Tirulli ended her evening in the women's 200-yard freestyle relay. She swam with teammates Mandi Chadwell, Martina Ivanova, and Kate Salsbury. The quartet placed second in 1:41.44.
