Eagles complete first shutout in 2015 with 9-0 victory over Bulldogs

ATHENS, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman women's tennis team (7-10) capped off its 2015 season with a 9-0 shutout against Tennessee Wesleyan (7-10) Tuesday afternoon. 

The Eagles accomplished a shutout for the first time since a March 14th, 2014 in matchup against the Coker Cobras. 

"We started strong in doubles today and never let up," coach Jean Love said following the victory. "It was a great way to finish the season."

All three Carson-Newman doubles teams won in dominating fashion. Jill Corsato-Owsianka (Germany) and Brooke Sanderson (Evans, Ga.) teamed up to take the opening match 8-2. Haleigh Chastain (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Catherine Cook (Morristown, Tenn.) followed suit with an 8-4 victory at No. 2. The South Atlantic Conference Honorable Mention doubles team, comprised of Jennifer Ott (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Patricia Guerreiro (Portugal), rounded out the scoring by winning 8-1 in the third round match. This was the 15th victory of the season for the dynamic duo.

The scoring continued throughout singles play, as each Eagle player finished their last individual match of the season with a win.

Corsato-Owsianka took the first match 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 and battled back after losing the first set. Guerreiro then won the second match 6-1 in two sets. Sanderson then won at No. 4, 1-6, 6-4, 10-5.

Chastain and Cook both won easily in their matches as well. Chastain took down her opponent 6-1, 6-2 and Cook finished her day by winning 8-5. 

Ott was a winner in her final collegiate match of her career. She came up with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the No. 3 singles match.
