Snead, Guerreiro named Chick-Fil-A Athletes of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman track and field's Kevin Snead (Richmond, Va.) and women's tennis' Patricia Guerreiro (Portugal) have been tabbed as the Chick-Fil-A Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

Kevin Snead (Richmond, Va.) recorded two first-place finishes at the Power Sox Invitational on Saturday, March 19, to go along with provisionally qualifying and breaking another Carson-Newman track and field program record on the day.

The junior provisionally qualified for the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships after completing the men's 100 meter dash with a first-place time of 10.56 seconds. He currently ranks second in Division II following the showing.

The sprinter also broke a 40-year Eagle 200 meter dash record set by Rom McGee on April 17, 1976 when Snead finished the race with a 21.51 second time for another first-place showing. The junior college transfer currently ranks sixth in the event for Division II following Saturday's competition.

Patricia Guerreiro (Portugal) wrapped up a three-win week for the Eagles with a combined 7-1 record between singles and doubles play. The senior went undefeated as the team's No. 2 singles player-needing only two sets in each match to produce the perfect 4-0 sheet on the week.

Guerreiro is the lone player on Carson-Newman's roster to still be undefeated on the season as the senior is now 9-0 on the year.

The Portugal native also accumulated three doubles-wins on the week while competing with Jill Corsato-Owsianka as the Eagles' No. 1 pairing.
