Eagles Throttle Tornadoes, 9-0

BREVARD, N.C. – The Carson-Newman women's tennis team won all but five games against Brevard on Saturday afternoon, in a 9-0 shutout of the Tornadoes.

 

Brevard (1-17, 0-8) entered the match on Saturday against Carson-Newman (7-7, 6-3) having lost 72 consecutive singles sets in conference play. After the match on Saturday Brevard consecutive sets loss streak was up to 84.

 

The Eagles got things rolling in doubles play winning all 24 games between the three doubles teams. Ali Harris (Crossville, Tenn.) and Jill Corsato-Owsianka (Germany) defeated the tandem of Kelsey Kushner and Sam Miranda at No. 1 doubles.  Harris and Corsato-Owsianka improve to 6-6 on the year and 5-4 in conference play.

 

The No. 2 doubles team of Alisa Liashova (Ukraine) and Klara Vuckovic (Germany) improved upon their six match winning streak in doubles play. The freshman tandem is now 10-2 on the year and 8-1 against South Atlantic Conference competition.

 

The final doubles tandem for the Eagles is made up of Sydney Ledington (Corbin, Ky.) and Lindy Tatum (Henderson, Tenn.). The duo snapped a four match losing skid on Saturday with an 8-0 win in doubles play. The pairing of Ledington and Tatum is now 3-9 on the season.

 

Things went from bad to worse for Brevard during singles play against the Eagles. Harris got things going for the Eagles at No. 1 singles. The sophomore got back to her winning ways with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Kushner. Harris is now 5-9 on the season.

 

Corsato-Owsianka improved on her three match win streak with a victory at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-1. The junior is now 8-6 overall on the year and has a 5-1 record since moving down into the No.3 singles position.

 

Liashova was able to end a four match losing streak at No. 2 singles on Saturday afternoon. The freshman won 6-0, 6-0 against Miranda. This was just the second victory for Liashova at the No. 2 singles position on the season.

 

Another pair of freshman picked up wins on Saturday afternoon as well for the Eagles. Vuckovic and Tandem both won their matches with ease at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Vuckovic is now 6-3 within conference play while Tatum is 5-4.

 

Ledington finished the sweep for the Eagles at No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Gabi Harness. The junior out of Kentucky is currently riding two game winning streak, while improving to 6-8 on the year.

 

The Eagles next match will be at home against Reinhardt at 2 p.m. on April 5.
