ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Carson-Newman women's tennis team made a return to the South Atlantic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon and fell 5-2 to Anderson University.

Carson-Newman (8-10) found themselves down 2-1 in the match after doubles play was complete against Anderson (18-4) on Thursday afternoon. The No. 3 doubles team of Lindy Tatum (Henderson, Tenn.) and Sydney Ledington (Corbin, Ky) lost 8-0 to start out doubles play for the Eagles. The tandem end the season with a 4-12 record at the No. 3 position.

The Eagles No.2 doubles team of Alisa Liashova (Ukraine) and Klara Vuckovic (Germany) gained an important 8-5 victory over the Anderson tandem of Jacqueline Olivia and Delaney Wiggins. The duo of Liashova and Vuckovic finished the season with an overall record of 13-3 and 10-2 in conference play. The win tied the match at 1-1 for each side going into the final round of doubles play.

In the final round of doubles play the No. 1 team of Ali Harris (Crossville, Tenn.) and Jill Corsato-Owsianka (Germany) held an early 5-2 lead. The duo watched the Anderson pairing of Rebecca Bruning and Laura Dean make a comeback that tied the match at 5-5. With the score tied at 6-6 Harris and Corsato-Owsianka were unable to win either of the final two games, falling 8-6. The loss drops the Eagles top doubles tandem to 8-8 on the season.

The Eagles got off to a rough start in singles play on Thursday afternoon. Tatum lost the No. 5 singles match 6-0, 6-3. The freshman finishes her first season at the Creek with a 9-11 overall record and a 6-6 mark in doubles play. Liashova was the second Eagle to fall on the afternoon with a 6-1, 6-2 straight sets loss at No. 2 singles. The freshman her first season with an overall record of 7-11 and 5-7 in conference play.

Vuckovic picked-up a crucial win at the No. 4 singles position with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Delaney Wiggins. The win kept the Eagles alive down 4-2 with three singles matches left to play. Vuckovic broke a two-match losing streak and picked up her ninth win of the season.

The final loss for the Eagles happened at the No. 1 singles position. Harris fought hard after losing the first set 6-1. The sophomore won the second set 7-6 but fell by two games in the third and final set 6-4. The Tennessee native finished the season with a 6-12 record at No. 1 singles.
