JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman women's tennis team came out swinging for their only fall match at home and defeated Christian Brothers University 7-0 Saturday morning.
"I was excited because it's the first time we've played at home." Coach Jim Frederick said. "I want to play at home more in the fall next year, we have a couple plans for a tournament so that will nice. It was fun for the kids not to have to travel and me as well."
Starting at the number one spot for the Eagles was Hannah Price (Knoxville, Tenn.) going against Christian Brothers Judit Aubets winning the first set handily at 6-4. Aubets faught back in the second set but Price still managed to come out on top 7-6.
At the number two singles was Alisa Liashova (Ukraine) defeating Laura Brazuelo 6-2, 6-2. Klara Vuckovic (Germany) filled the number three spot for the Eagles defeating Hellina Wooten 6-4, 7-5. At number five was Claire Smith (Lexington, KY) coming out on top against Shay Pritchard 6-3, 6-2 and Shelby Rodgers (Knoxville, Tenn.) completed the lineup at number six defeating Tia Pearson 6-1, 6-0.
Competing in together for the number one doubles position were Price and Abby Reis against Aubets and Brazuelo for CBU. The two Eagles handled their business in a quick set winning 6-1. At number two doubles Smith and Rodgers defeated Pritchard and Wooten 6-1 as well.
"The only thing I was interested in is everyone getting better from the last time we played." Coach Frederick said. "How well someone plays is a couple things , it's competing better, being positive, and obviously the results being a little bit better. We've improved each week from our first tournament at Wingate and I'm looking for everybody to continue to do so."
The Eagles will be back in action at the Belmont Abbey tournament on October 12thand 13thfor their final match of the fall season.
