JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman men's and women's tennis gets ready for their second match of the season against Virginia-Wise on Sunday.
Looking to come back from losses against Austin Peay University for the women, and the Citadel for the men, the Eagles prepare for the Cavaliers who are 0-4 on the season so far. Currently, Virginia-Wise is in the Mountain East Conference but will move to the South Atlantic Conference next year.
"If we compete well, we'll be fine," Head tennis coach Jim Frederick said. "It is good to play a team that's going to be in our conference next year. They're not very good right now, I assume they'll get a lot better when they get in this conference."
Going from playing the Citadel and Austin Peay who are Division I schools to a lower Division II school, the mindset of the team going into Sunday is to maintain their own level of play.
"We talked about it today, they know what their record is," Frederick said. "We just can't play to their level. We just have to play to our level, compete the way we know how to compete, do the things we know how to do, and let the results take care of themselves."
The weather has been back and forth the past week and due to rain in the forecast, the match has been moved to the Knoxville Racquet Club on Sunday. The match will begin at 12 p.m., for results and more information check back on cneagles.com.
