Eagles ready for a busy weekend against the Royals and Wolves

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman women's tennis team (4-4) heads into the weekend with two back to back home matches against No. 15 Queens and Newberry Saturday and Sunday on their home courts at Mossy Creek.

Coming off of a big 4-3 win against Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday, the Eagles look to ride the momentum into the weekend and keep the trend going.

Opening with Queens on Saturday, the Eagles have stout competition ahead of them. The defending South Atlantic Conference Champions were voted in at No. 2 in the preseason SAC tennis poll by league coaches just behind Wingate and are 6-1 overall. Undefeated in conference play so far, they are 2-0 after taking down Mars Hill and Lenoir Rhyne. The only loss for the Royals came from No. 6 Columbus State University.

With a huge group of freshmen coming in, the roster consists of seventeen players and twelve of them are freshmen. Of the returning five, sophomores Yana Fleyer and Sasha Davidzenka were both named on the singles All-Conference first team and junior Isabel Fornies was named to the second team. Additionally, Fleyer was the 2018 SAC Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year finishing the season with a perfect record. Fleyer and Davidzenka were named to the All-Conference doubles first team as well.

Moving on to Newberry, the Eagles will face the Wolves on Sunday. They are 10-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play heading into the contest. Of the five returning players, sophomore Elisa Aguirre will play a key role for Newberry as she earned second-team All-Conference singles.

Competition will begin on Saturday against Queens at 2:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 1 p.m. For more information, results and updates check back on cneagles.com.
