KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Wins coming from high and low in the Carson-Newman women's tennis lineup sealed the deal as the Eagles knocked off Tennessee Wesleyan 5-2 at the Knoxville Racquet Club Saturday afternoon.

After falling last weekend to Division I opposition in Austin Peay, the Eagles (4-2) rebounded in a major way Saturday, earning the team's fourth win at the indoor Knoxville complex on the season.

It is the sixth win in program history over the Bulldogs (2-2) who entered the day at No. 25 in the NAIA Coaches Poll. The two last faced one another in 2018 after weather put off 2019's contest.

No. 1 singles player Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) shined in individual play, blanking her Bulldogs opponent Elisa Piquero 6-0, 6-0. It's the second time this season that the preseason All-SAC selection has held her opponent without a game win.

Resende paired with Abby Reis (Des Moines, Iowa) for a second-straight match, winning 6-1. The pairings of Hannah Price (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Tash Forrest (Jersey, United Kingdom) won 6-2, while Alisa Liashova (Ukraine) and Klara Vuckovic (Reutlingen, Germany) won 6-3.

Continuing through singles play, Price was able to pick up a 6-2, 6-0 win while Vuckovic earned a 6-4, 6-3 decision. Liashova continued her winning ways, picking up her fourth-straight win at No. 6 singles by a final of 6-1, 6-1.

With the loss, the Bulldogs have lost two of their last three, respectively, and will less than 24 hours of turnaround time before a Sunday matinee with Brenau University.

Fortunately for C-N's athletes, a 10-day break awaits the team before the beginning of South Atlantic Conference play against Wingate on March 4.
