JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman made 11 attack errors in the fourth set in a loss to Anderson 21-25, 28-26, 24-26 and 25-10 in a South Atlantic Conference contest at Holt Fieldhouse Friday evening.

"You're going to have a set like that somewhere along the way," Carson-Newman coach Dave Franklin said. "Honestly we haven't had a set like that in a long time. It was just mistimed. I didn't think the shot selection was all that bad. We just weren't able to execute. We hit some balls out of bounds and hit some balls in the block. It was a bad set of volleyball. I think they're easy to let go because we know that's not us."

The first set featured a pair of massive sequences. Anderson began the match with a 14-4 lead that was immediately followed by a 14-5 spurt from Carson-Newman to pull within a point at 19-18. The Eagles tied the score at 20 only to see the Trojans win four unanswered and close out the frame with a kill from Serena Jackson.

The second stanza saw the Eagles tally eight blocks and limit the Trojans to a .000 attack percentage in a frame that saw nine ties and seven lead changes. The largest separation for either side was three points in a back-and-forth set. C-N saw Anderson wipe away two set points and needed four chances to close out the set as freshman outside hitter Marnie Streeter (Goldvein, Va.) crushed a ball to the surface to tie the match at one.

Anderson was in control for seemingly the entire third set holding a four to six-point lead once the score entered double figures. The Trojans held a 24-20 advantage when the Eagles rattled off four straight points with sophomore middle blocker Natalie Harris on serve. A service error and an attack error gave the frame to Anderson.

The fourth set saw Carson-Newman hit -.290 committing 11 attack errors with just two kills. Anderson raced out to an 8-1 start and won eight of the final nine rallies of the match to close out the contest.

Overall on the night, Carson-Newman hit .055 with 84 digs, 17 blocks and four service aces compared with Anderson's .156 attack percentage, 96 scoops, 11 rejections and five aces.

Streeter tied for the match lead with 17 kills on the night and freshman middle blocker Alex Biro (Ootlewah, Tenn.) added 10 smashes and 4.5 rejections. Harris had seven kills and 4.5 blocks.

Junior setter Anna Patton (Franklin, Tenn.) compiled a double-double with 35 assists and 16 digs to go along with three total blocks.

Senior libero Taylor Lowe (Franklin, Tenn.) tallied 26 digs to go over the 2,000 mark in her career bringing her sum to 2,003.

Anderson was led by a double-double from Emily Conlin as she posted 47 assists and 12 digs. Rachel Burts buried 17 balls on a .500 hitting percentage. Marissa Mitter added 11 kills and 10 digs.

The Eagles play Saturday evening at 5 p.m. as Newberry comes to Holt Fieldhouse for a league matchup. The contest will be broadcast on cneagles.com/live as the Eagle Sports Network provides coverage.
