JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Marnie Streeter had 11 kills and Erin Edwards finished with 10 as Carson-Newman saw four players finish with at least eight in a four-set victory over Newberry Saturday afternoon 25-15, 21-25, 27-25 and 25-11 at Holt Fieldhouse in South Atlantic Conference play.

"We came out with a lot of energy in the first set and executed," Carson-Newman coach Dave Franklin said. "Sets two and three there was a little lull in execution but the competitive energy was there which was something we talked about last night and wanted to bring back today. We kept competing."

Carson-Newman (11-8, 7-5) produced its longest run of the season reeling off the final 11 points of the day. It had not had a run of 8-0 or greater all season.

Newberry (8-12, 3-10) is now 5-17 all-time in Holt Fieldhouse as the Eagles hold a commanding 36-10 advantage in the all-time series.

Franklin's group won eight of the first 10 points of the day only to see the Wolves rattle off five straight points to make it 8-7. C-N went on an 11-3 run to get the spread to nine points. Five players had multiple kills in a set where the Eagles hit .270 as Marnie Streeter (Goldvein, Va.) put the punctuation mark with a kill.

Opening the second stanza, C-N won three of the first four only to watch Newberry reel off seven in-a-row to go on top 8-3. It was a 17-15 contest after a 5-2 spurt for the Eagles when the home group won four of five to tie the score. The Wolves answered by winning six of the final eight to take the game.

The third set looked to be a runaway as the Eagles won 14 of the first 20 points. Newberry began to click and won 18 of 25 to go on top 24-21. With Elena Vasquez (Riverside, Calif.) on serve, the Eagles won four straight to stave off three set points. The Wolves tied the score at 25 only to see the home group rattle off three straight to win the set.

The beginning of the fourth set was the tightest of the day as the two teams traded points with six ties to make it an 8-8. The Eagles flipped the script winning 17 of the final 20 including each of the last 11 rallies to put the finishing touches on a four-set win.

The Eagles posted a .221 hitting clip with 48 kills, 77 digs and 12 service aces while racking up 10 total blocks. The Wolves countered with a .081 margin on 42 kills with 57 digs, six aces and five rejections.

Streeter led the Eagles with 11 kills while adding nine assists and Edwards finished the day with 10 kills and a career-high five digs.

Megan Oldenburger (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) added nine kills and 18 digs while Natalie Harris (Monroe, N.C.) matched a season high with eight kills and three service aces on the day.

Morgan Ballard (Weaverville, N.C.) led all players with 20 digs and Vasquez picked up her seventh career double-double with 19 assists and 10 digs to go along with three aces.

Toni-Anne Whitlow finished with a match-high 12 kills, six of which came in the third set. Olivia Kozemko had 23 assists and eight digs and Kensley Jordan paced the back row with 17 digs.

The Eagles get a Tuesday off for the first time since mid-September before hitting the road to face Wingate and Coker next weekend for the lone weekend road trip of October.
