Streeter selected as SAC Player of the Week

VIDEO: Marnie Streeter Interview

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the third time in her career, junior outside hitter Marnie Streeter has been named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week announced by the league Monday afternoon.

The Goldvein, Va. native is the first Carson-Newman player to earn either the player of the week or specialist plaudit this season. Streeter earned player of the week honors twice in 2017 on Sept. 12 and Oct. 30.

In three matches a week ago, she posted double-digit kills in each outing with 11 against Lincoln Memorial, 10 against Lenoir-Rhyne and 16 at Mars Hill. Her stat line for the week included a service ace, 16 digs, and four total blocks.

"It has given us more confidence," Streeter said. "If we go up and swing and make a mistake then we know we will come back on the next one. Everyone is there to cover us if we get blocked. It gives us more confidence to swing away and know that it's how we get kills."

In a sweep against the Bears on Friday night, the junior notched her 1,000th career kill with 10 smashes on 36 swings. It brought her career total to an even 1,000 as she becomes the first Eagle since Rachel Harper in 2014 to reach the threshold. She is the eighth player to join the 1,000-kill club since 2002.

Over her last five matches, the outside hitter has posted double-digit efforts where she is averaging 3.8 kills per set after posting around 2.5 for much of the season. Her season average sits at 2.77 good for 15th in the league on the season.

She has 15 matches this year in double figures in kills with four double-doubles while leading the team in blasts on nine occasions.

Streeter leads the Eagles into the SAC Quarterfinals Tuesday evening at Holt Fieldhouse for a 7 p.m. first serve. The game will air on cneagles.com/live with the Eagle Sports Network providing the production.
