JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles baseball team (1-2) will face a Conference Carolinas foe on Tuesday, facing the Pfeiffer Falcons (0-3) at Joe Ferebee Field in Misenheimer, N.C. at 2 p.m.

The Eagles are 1-2 after their first series of the season against Augusta State last weekend in Augusta, Ga.

After Carson-Newman dropped the first two games of the series 10-6 and 5-4, the Eagles salvaged the final game of the series by winning 10-0 on Saturday.

Saturday's victory featured a complete game shutout for right-handed starter Quinton Yocum (Cable, Ohio). The sophomore pitched seven scoreless innings with five strikeouts and he only allowed four hits and walked one batter in his first win of the season.

Third baseman Brandon Roberts (Davie, Fla.) was among the top Eagle hitters during the first weekend, going 4-for-10 at the plate with a double and two runs batted in.

The weekend in Augusta also featured a pair of solo homers for the Eagles. In Saturday's first game of the doubleheader Bo Ausmus (Jefferson City, Tenn.) homered to tie the game at two in the top of the seventh.

In the second game of the doubleheader, catcher Kevin Franchetti (Highland, Ind.) hit a solo shot in the fifth inning to give Carson-Newman a 5-0 lead before the Eagles added five runs in the sixth to finish the weekend with a 10-0 victory.

Tuesday's game at Pfeiffer will be Carson-Newman's only midweek action this week. The Falcons have lost their first three games of the season, all playing nationally ranked teams from the South Atlantic Conference. Pfeiffer fell to no. 13 Catawba 7-0 on Friday before losing to the Indians 8-1 on Saturday. To close out play in Salisbury, N.C., the Falcons lost 16-3 to no. 17 Tusculum.

Three players hit .300 or better for the Falcons last weekend: Kyle Hackney (.333), Johnny Brown, Jr. (.333), and Matt Wade (.300).

The Falcons were picked to finish seventh in the Conference Carolinas preseason coaches poll, and right-handed pitcher Bryan Tuttle was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers (NCBWA) Preseason Southeast Region Third-Team.

Carson-Newman will continue play on the road with a weekend series at USC Aiken from Feb. 8-10 in Aiken, S.C.
